There are many, many summer camps available for young students particularly that I would like to add, but I need the links! Sacramento Youth Symphony and Academy of Music - Clink the link below to watch the symphony website for the audition schedule, posted in February of each year for the upcoming auditions in May. Applications need to be mailed by late April. www.sacys.org Sacramento Mandarins Drum and Bugle Corps - The Mandarins practice heavily through the late spring and summer for a highly competitive performance season. Auditions are in December. Click on the link to reach the site. www.mandarins.org University of the Pacific, Conservatory of Music - UOP (Stockton) has one of the top music schools in the country. To be admitted to the Conservatory of Music undergraduate programs, you must also be admitted to the University of the Pacific. Early action application priority filing date for Fall 2010 is November 15, 2009. Freshmen regular application priority filing date is January 15, 2010. The financial aid priority filing date for all majors is February 15, 2010. There's also a limited number of merit scholarships available. The audition dates for Fall 2010 are January 23, January 30, February 6, and February 13, 2010. Check out the "Music Camps" link from the menu of the home page or click on http://web.pacific.edu/x1283.xml. The Brubeck Institute Jazz Camp accepts applicants from grades 8-12. The Junior Band and Orchestra Camp is for students in grades 5-8, and the Senior Band, Orchestra, and Choir Camp accepts students in grades 8-12. There is also a Senior Piano Camp for grades 8-12. Remember that honor band participants receive a $50 discount if they send in a copy of the program, showing their participation, with their registration. A limited number of partial scholarships are available for the Jazz, Senior, Piano and Music Theater Camps. The applications are due in May 2010.
California State University, Sacramento - The 2010 CSUS Summer Jazz Camp is open to students 14 years of age or older who have studied their instrument a minimum of one year. This year's camp is July 11-16, 2010 and features the Jim Widner Big Band. It is a very intensive week of big band rehearsals, master classes, sectionals, and classes in theory, improvisation, and arranging. Cost is $425 for commuter students, $925 for residential tuition. Berklee College of Music, Boston - Berklee College of Music has both summer and degree programs for musicians. Their early action application deadline is November 1 for the following fall semester.
