A Taste of the Arts

The PGHS Jazz Band and Saxophone Quartet will be performing at the First Annual "A Taste of the Arts" fundraiser benefiting Miss Jeanne's House Foundation on November 22, 2008.  This foundation was created in loving tribute to Jeanne Marie Pettenger, to continue her work to provide quality art and literacy programs to our local 33,000+ elementary school students.  By supporting Miss Jeanne's House Foundation, you are helping them provide quality instruction in art, music, drama, dance, and other forms of expression which are so important to a child's overall development.

"A Taste of the Arts" will be hosted by Stefanie Cruz of Good Day Sacramento and will offer tastings from local wineries and restaurants, along with a fantastic silent auction.  Please visit their website at www.missjeanneshouse.com for more information.  Click on the above picture to order tickets,  find out more about the event, or become a sponsor.

Date: November 22, 2008

Time: 6:00-10:00 p.m.

Place: Laguna Town Hall

Ticket cost: $60.00

*Ticket purchase is tax-deductible as a donation to a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation.

BAND NEWS - November 2008

KAMS Concert Band/Jazz Band Fall Concert

Time seems to be flying by!  Our Fall Concert is right around the corner.  Albiani Concert Band, PGHS Saxophone Quartet, and the Combined Jazz Band will be performing on Wednesday, November 19 in the Black Box Theatre (HE-1) on the PGHS campus.  Call time is 6:30 p.m. in the Band Room.  Concert black attire (black shirt/blouse, black pants/dress/skirt, black shoes and socks.  Boys please wear a tie.).  Albiani students will need to pick up their instruments after band on Wednesday for the concert.

Festival Jazz Band - A Taste of the Arts

The Festival Jazz Band will be performing for this fundraiser event at Laguna Town Hall on November 22.  Call time is 5 p.m.  Performance times are approximate, but will be from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. for the Jazz Band.  The Saxophone Quartet and Resisting Ordinary will also be playing a couple sets in between.  Pizza dinner will be brought in for the performing students.  Concert black attire.  Boys please wear a tie.  You will need to pick up your instruments and bring them to this performance since we will not be using the trailer.  There is a special invitation extended to band parents to purchase tickets at a discounted rate of $30, but tickets must be purchased from Holly Yue or Julie Craig by Wednesday, November 19.

Marching Band - Parade of Lights

The Old Town Elk Grove Foundation will be hosting the annual Elk Grove Dickens Faire from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 29.  Elk Grove Blvd. will be closed during this time from Derr St. to Adams St. (where the old Elk Grove Library is).  The Parade of Lights is scheduled to step off at 6 p.m. at Derr Street, with a tree lighting ceremony immediately following the parade at the corner of Walnut and Elk Grove Blvd.  The reviewing stand will probably be at Eldorado Savings Bank and the parade ends at Adams St.

The Marching Band will be participating in this year's Parade of Lights and will be lining up at the corner of Derr St. and Elk Grove Blvd. (about 1/2 mile west of Waterman Rd. Long's) at 5:00 p.m.  (Note that this has changed because we're marching at the front of the parade).  The parade entries will be lined up along Elk Grove Blvd, so probably the best way to access this area is to go the back way--from the school, go west on Bond Rd. to Waterman Rd.  Turn left at Waterman and make the first right after the cemetery (Rancho Dr.).  Go down Rancho about 1/2 mile and turn left at Batey Ave.  Turn right on Locust St. and you can drop off right there at the corner of Derr.  There should be ample street parking on Derr, Locust, or School Streets.  Elk Grove Blvd. will be closed at Waterman Rd. at 5:30 p.m.

Students please wear your marching uniform with a Santa hat.  You are encouraged to light your instruments or yourselves with battery-operated strings of light in white or red.  More details will be forthcoming so listen in class.

Fog Willow Farms Ticket Sales

Fog Willow Farms ticket sales have come to an end.  Please return any unsold tickets and/or money to the band room in the envelope provided when you checked out the tickets, or in an envelope marked with your student's name labeled "Fog Willow."  All money and unsold tickets are due back on October 31 during 4th period.

Winter Percussion Ensemble

The program welcomes individuals from any background, even those without previous musical experience; the only requirement is that you attend PGHS.  There are parts for mallets, keyboards, timpani, guitar, bass guitar, chimes, auxiliary, and of course marching drums.  The next Winter Percussion rehearsal will be on November 19 from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m.  ALL interested members are required to be there.  Don't forget to bring any interested friends to practice. We will begin assigning parts as well.  A full schedule will be passed out.  They will be taking on the challenging music of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra this season.  Please contact Jake Tuttle or visit the Winter Percussion page for more information.
