BAND NEWS - July-August 2010

Mr. Jay DeWald Retires from EGUSD

Our Music Director here at Pleasant Grove High School and Katherine Albiani Middle School retired as of the end of last school year.  Mr. DeWald has been teaching in the Elk Grove Unified School District for the past 31 years, with the first 26 years at Elk Grove High School.  He started the music program at Pleasant Grove and Albiani when the campuses opened five years ago.  During these five years, the marching band, concert bands, jazz band and jazz combo grew and thrived under the direction of Mr. DeWald.  All groups have won numerous awards and have built a reputation for Pleasant Grove and Albiani.  Mayor Sophia Scherman presented Mr. DeWald with a proclamation from the City Council of Elk Grove, recognizing him for his 31 years of service and for his personal contributions as maestro, musician, and teacher.  The students will miss Mr. DeWald at the schools, but he will not be a total stranger.  Mr. DeWald will continue to perform with the DeWald Taylor Jazztet and conduct the Strauss Festival Orchestra, so stop by and say hello.
