Fourteen students from the PGHS Band participated in this memorable trip to the Big Island of Hawaii and Oahu. Upon arriving at the Royal Kona Resort on the Big Island, they were given one hour to settle into their rooms before changing for their first performance at the Kona International Marketplace. That was followed by a luau the same night. During their stay in Kona, they visited a small local town, Kohala, to enjoy the festivities of the King Kamehameha Day Festival. They also visited the Volcanic National Park and Punalu'u Black Sand Beach. The students had a great time aboard the boat Fair Winds on Kealakekua Bay and going snorkeling; and as if that wasn't enough fun, and a group of them even saw Kung Fu Panda after that (except for Lyndon...he saw the Incredible Hulk).
Continuing their trip to Honolulu, the students toured the USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor, shopped at the Aloha Stadium Flea Market, and performed at the Ala Moana Shopping Center Stage. That was followed by an instrumental music clinic at the University of Hawaii with Professor Nakamura; and then they had the rest of their last day free to cruise Waikiki or do as they pleased. It may sound like a very busy week, but what's Hawaii without a little beach time? Don't worry, they had plenty!
